The race for the 2021/22 PSL Golden Boot award is well and truly on with Namibia’s Peter Shalulile leading the pack with nine goals.

Having won the award following the 2019/20 season, and narrowly missing out to Bradley Grobler last time around, Shalulile is one of the favourites to be crowned top goal scorer if he continues with his rich form.

Shalulile is followed in second on the goal scoring chart by Thamsanqa Gabuza of SuperSport United and Royal AM’s Victor Letsoal, both on six goals each. Ashley du Preez of Stellenbosch, Keagan Dolly of Kaizer Chiefs and Chibuike Ohizu of Sekhukhune United are on five goals each.

Amazulu’s Bongi Ntuli and Deon Hotto of Orlando Pirates follow with three goals each.

In addition, Shalulile’s Sundowns are also enjoying a great run, having beaten Sekhukhune United 2-0 at ABSA Tuks Stadium on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run so far this season and looking to once again lift the title.

Goals from Neo Maema and Themba Zwane either side of the break navigated the Brazilians back to winning ways in rainy conditions.

Victory moved the league leaders and defending champions nine points clear at the top, (30 points in total), followed in second by Stellenbosch (29 points), Sekhukhune United is in third (20 points), followed in fourth by SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs both on 19 points.

Sundowns will face Stellenbosch on 4 December and then Royal AM on 8 December, giving a chance to Shalulile to further extend his goal scoring lead.
