Shalulile back for Warriors
Peter Shalulile has recovered from an ankle injury and features in a 26-man Brave Warriors training squad.
The Brave Warriors have called up a 26-man training squad ahead of their home and away 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Mozambique.
The Namibian team will be away to Mozambique in Maputo on 13 October and then host them on 16 October at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Hardworking striker Peter Shalulile, who has not featured for the Warriors since sustaining an injury in last season's final encounter between Stellenbosch FC and his club Highlands Park in South Africa, is back in the fray.
He has played three matches so far in the new South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
The 25-year-old player is an asset to the national side, because of the threat he poses to defenders, and frequently uses his speed to score goals.
“Shalulile is ready for Mozambique. He is a very popular player and has been putting his name on the scoring sheet and also plays well under pressure.
“However, all the responsibility should not be offloaded on him, but should be shared equally,” Warriors mentor Ricardo Mannetti said.
He said the fitness of the players is way better then when they faced Zambia on 8 September.
“It is now up to the technical side to make sure that they pick those who are fit and ready to carry the rest of the team.”
The head coach added they put in a great showing against Zambia while securing a 1-1 draw, but will more ready when they face Os Mambas.
Mannetti urged the players to work on their mental fitness.
“We have depth and talent, but I just want the players to set their minds right and be up for the game.
“I also want to mention that our away game results have not been satisfying and we need to play better than the home team if we want to win. If they offer us a high-tempo match, we should respond in kind and deliver,” he said.
Mannetti, however, added these should not be seen as a do-or-die clashes.
“We have a target, and that is to beat Mozambique away and at home, and then to also beat Guinea Bissau. That is our job,” he emphasised.
The squad will leave for South Africa on Sunday and will be trimmed to 18 before the away match takes place.
They will travel back on 14 October and prepare for their home match.
The away match will kick off at 17:00, while the home match is expected to start at 19:00.
The training squad is as follows: Ratanda Mbazuvara (African Stars), Virgil Vries (Kaizer Chiefs), Maximillian Mbaeva (Lamontville Golden Arrows), Lloyd Kazapua (Maccabi FC), Larry Horaeb (unattached), Vitapi Ngaruka (Black Africa), Emilio Martin (Black Africa), Tiberius Lombard (Lusaka Dynamos), Riaan Hanamub (Jomo Cosmos), Ananias Gebhardt and Charles Hambira (Baroka FC), Denzel Haoseb (Highlands Park), Willy Stephanus (AC Kajaani, Finland), Wangu Gome (Cape Umoya United), Deon Hotto (Bidvest Wits), Dynamo Fredericks (Black Africa), Ronald Ketjijere (African Stars - captain), Marcel Papama (Unam), Benson Shilongo (Smouha, Egypt), Petrus Shitembi (unattached), Absalom Iimbondi (Tigers), Peter Shalulile (Highlands Park), Muna Katupose (Unam), Sadney Urikhob (unattached), Hendrik Somaeb (FK Zemun, Serbia) and Itamuna Keimuine (Dire Dawa City, Ethiopia).
