Seven killed in accidents

At least seven people were killed in car accidents this weekend.
On Sunday, a four-year-old girl was killed when a 53-year-old driver lost control over his vehicle and ran her over in Havana. According to the police, the child was walking along a small gravel road between shacks in Havana when a Toyota Vios driven recklessly hit and killed her instantly.
The driver also drove the car into a shack, destroying it. Fortunately, no one was injured inside the shack.
The deceased was identified as Anna Panduleni Nghipuka.
Speeding
In another incident on Saturday night, three people were killed in a crash under the bridge between the Katutura and Windhoek Central hospitals on the Western Bypass. It is alleged that a 32-year-old man lost control of a Polo GTI he was driving. The car crashed into a bridge pillar and overturned. Two passengers and the driver were killed instantly. The three were last seen at nightclub in Prosperita and were seen speeding. The deceased were identified as Francois Vernon Lottering (31), Mark Körner (31) and Carlton Körner (33).
In another accident on the road between Grootfontein and Otavi, 42-year-old Aebeb Jubert Anatagaha died on the spot when a bus collided head-on with his Toyota Corolla.
The deceased was alone in his vehicle while the bus had 27 passengers en route to Windhoek.
Grab and run
In Katutura, 35-year-old Nafuka Vaino died after being hit by a Hino truck between the Monte Cristo and Lafrenz service stations on Saturday.
It is alleged that Vaino had grabbed a cellphone and wallet from a Toyota bakkie and then ran in front of an oncoming truck. He was taken to the Katutura State Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The stolen items were recovered at the accident scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of a Nissan bakkie died when the vehicle overturned in Windhoek's Sam Nujoma Drive on Saturday night. The body of the deceased was apparently thrown out of the vehicle. No identification has been made.
