Samaria wants top performance
Brave Warriors interim coach Bobby Samaria believes that the players he has selected for the world cup qualifier match against Eritrea will prove their worth.
The national team will battle Eritrea in the 2022 Federation of International Football Federations (Fifa) World Cup qualifiers first leg away on Wednesday.
Interim coach Bobby Samaria says the players he has selected have a lot to prove and he trusts that they will perform beyond expectations.
Samaria on Friday morning released his final 23-man squad, which departed for Asmar, Eritrea, yesterday.
He explained that the team selection was not easy given the absence of some players, but believes the chosen ones will make it count.
“It was not easy to select this team. We have players missing with injuries and some on trials across the world. Petrus Shitembi is in Germany and Denzil Hoaseb in Morocco for trials and hence unavailable for the game. But Namibia is blessed with talent and now the players in have to step up and deliver.”
The coach added that the final 23 are aware of the challenge ahead and he strongly believes they can do the job.
“I believe in these guys to go and do the job and see how far we can go in these qualifiers. Some players are unattached and this also gives them the platform to raise their hands and maybe get noticed for their immense talent,” Samaria said.
The team yesterday left for Eritrea and the match will take place on Wednesday, with return match next Tuesday at 19:00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Here are the 23 players: Virgil Vries (unattached), Loydt Kazapua (Baroka FC, SA), Larry Horaeb ( Tura Magic), Aprocious Petrus (Eleven Arrows), Ratanda Mbazuvara, Ivan Kamberipa, Obrey Amseb, Marcel Papama (all African Stars), Dynamo Fredericks, Vitapi Ngaruka, Immanuel Heita, Wendell Rudath (all Black Africa), Llewelyn Stanley (Tigers), Elmo Kambindu (Mighty Gunners), Gregory Aukumeb (Blue Waters), Willy Stephanus (Lusaka Dynamos, Zambia), Peter Shalulile (Highlands Park, SA) Chris Katjiukua (Black Leopards, SA), Benson Shilongo (Ismaily, Egypt), Hendrik Somaeb (unattached), Deon Hotto (Bidvest Wits, SA) , Joslin Kamatuka, and Teberius Lombard (Zanaco, Zambia).
