Rugby cash woes hit new Currie Cup season start

Staff Reporter

Tomorrow’s Currie Cup clash between the Windhoek Draught Welwitchias and the Down Touch Griffons has officially been cancelled. This follows negotiations that resulted in money not being available anymore for the visiting team's travelling costs for the match that was scheduled for the Hage Geingob Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
“I am very, very disappointed," said Mervin Green, the CEO of Namibia Rugby Limited.
“Ourselves, the IRB and the main sponsors, Namibian Breweries Limited and First National Bank Namibia, will release a joint media statement as soon as possible."
Six other teams will kick off their Currie Cup season this weekend in South Africa.
