Riz the true Wiz

His career is to tell a tale
June Shimuoshili
Please tell us a little but about you?
I am 20 and was born and raised in the capital. I went to Van Rhyn Primary and completed my high school at Windhoek High in 2014. I can say I seriously started making videos when I was 16. Then video stuff started popping up when I was 17. My first video was aired on TV and that ended up with me getting a job with Ogopa Butterfly as director, editor and cinematographer. The rest, as they say, is history.
What major videos have you produced?
I have directed many video projects that turned out quiet exceptional, including Dice-Botsotso, Kalux-Netira, KK-Katutura Kid and my own video where I was featured by Ameen Harron titled Best, Aj Fresh-SOP and Oteya-Ethimbo
Do you have a certain trademark; how are your videos distinguished from the rest?
I wouldn’t really say I have one, I just make sure my videos are of high quality. I look at my work after it is done and ask myself if it can compete on the international level. I don’t have a crew or anything, I like working alone. So if I feel it a certain video needs to be reshot then I do that and I don’t just let it get aired yet.
At your age you are renowned as the best local video producer, what do you say about that?
I think it’s really dope that some people feel that way about me, that’s very cool, but I wouldn’t really say I am right now. I am personally working towards that but it takes time, hard work and dedication. I am still learning and there are many areas that I want to improve on. I put all my time and energy into this video thing and it paid off.
How do you improve your skills and strive for the best?
Most of my videos are low-budget so I try my best to shoot without spending too much money, but the video industry is growing in Namibia and Africa. There was a time where one could shoot a good video with a good camera and some nice techniques but that’s not the case anymore. One needs to go the extra mile which means having a nice budget so you can do some things that people haven’t seen before.
What are you currently up to?
At the moment I am working on some new videos. People can like my fan page on Facebook ‘Riz The Wiz” for when my work will be released or follow me on Instagram and twitter @iamrizthewiz.
