Retired bishops celebrate wedding anniversaries
Three retired bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) on Saturday celebrated their wedding anniversaries at the Ohote ELCIN Parish in Otjiwarongo.
Retired Bishop Kleopas Dumeni and his wife Aino were married in 1958 and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, while Retired Bishop Apollos Kaulinge and his wife Elina married in 1962 and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Retired Bishop Johannes Sindano and his wife Martha celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married in 1966.
Reverend Aaron Kanana, who officiated at the event, said he is happy to see the couples still living in harmony after all these years.
He prayed for them and asked God to continue blessing their marriages, families and the church members at large.
The chairperson of the organising committee, Suoma Angala told Nampa each of the three retired bishops had the opportunity to bless church members so that their marriages can flourish and for those who are not yet married to be responsible when choosing spouses in future.
Three cattle were slaughtered for the celebration with the families of Dumeni, Kaulinge and Sindano.
The anniversary celebrations coincided with a fundraising event, aimed at raising money for the extension and renovation of the Ohote ELCIN church building.
More than N$230 000 in cash was generated at the event and sponsorships of building materials were pledged.
The renovations are expected to start in March 2017.
Angala said the anniversary celebrations inspired many church members and visitors from various congregations that attended the event.
