Rehoboth Kaptein election flawed

RYNAULT VAN WYK

Recent developments in the aftermath of the fraudulent and discredited Rehoboth Baster Kaptein election compel me to issue this statement in the interest of the broader population of the Baster community.

As far as the election is concerned, I have already made my position known in a press statement in which I have rejected the entire process and outcome of this so-called election.

We have now recently noticed an advertisement placed in the Republikein newspaper of 14 May 2021 and purported to be a 'Legal Notice' and signed by a so-called 'Judge' Jacobus N.J. Bock and a so-called 'Kaptein' Martin Dentlinger.

The content of the so-called legal notice raised serious concerns that cannot be allowed to go unchallenged.

As a candidate in the said Rehoboth Baster Kaptein's election, I hereby strongly reject the so-called legal notice by Mr Martin Dentlinger, which infringes on the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia and violates the sovereignty and integrity of the state. It has the potential to have far-reaching unwanted and negative ramifications on our people, the relations among Namibia's people, national security and on Namibia as a unitary state.

In this context, I and surely most of the Baster people, unequivocally and unflaggingly reaffirm the following: The recognition of the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Republic of Namibia;

Full support of the important and vital notion of the recognition of all organs of the state within the Republic of Namibia; and

The importance of holding the rule of law in high esteem and inviolable.

In light of the afore-mentioned, I would like to distance myself and most of the Baster people from this unlawful legal notice in no uncertain terms. The Constitution was firmly supported by our beloved late Kaptein Hans Diergaardt on 9 February 1990 when Namibia was birthed. We stand by this position.

Furthermore, I call on Mr Martin Dentlinger and his ilk to exercise restraint and political maturity in order to ensure that the future of our people and the Republic of Namibia is well preserved. The peace and stability of our country are foundational for socio-economic and cultural development.
