Rapist caught in the act by victim’s brother, boyfriend

While several rapes have again been reported this weekend, an alleged rapist was caught on Friday by the boyfriend and brother of a 30-year-old woman who had been raped at Gobabis.

In another case at Gobabis on Friday, a 30-year-old woman was raped, allegedly by a 29-year-old man, in the veld next to the town’s Nossobville location.

It is alleged that the woman was on her way to her home in Witpan and when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man.

The suspect was caught red-handed while raping the woman by her brother and her boyfriend. He fled but the two chased after him, caught him and called the police.

In another rape case at Etomba village in the Ondobe area, a 19-year-old woman was raped by an unknown man while she was walking home on Friday. No arrest has been made.

At Cwa village near Ndiyona in the Kavango East Region, a 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 48-year-old man on Friday. The suspect has been arrested.

At Katima Mulilo, a 28-year-old man attempted to rape a 16-year-old girl on Friday night. The man allegedly pulled the girl from her parents’ house and threatened to stab her with a knife if she refused to have sex with him. The man has been arrested.

Killed with spear

A 68-year-old man was killed with a spear on a farm in the Mariental District on Friday night.

It is alleged that the suspect threw the spear at the deceased after an argument over alcohol, killing him instantly. The suspect, whose age has not been given, fled but was later arrested.

Stabbed to death

At Tsumeb, a 21-year-old woman died on Saturday night after being stabbed by an unknown man.

It is alleged that Rejoice Shoveleka and her friend were on their way home when an unknown man started chasing them, grabbed Shoveleka and stabbed her in the neck. She was taken to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Assaulted for working

Eight men on Friday afternoon assaulted a 34-year-old co-worker at Tsumeb’s Tschudi mine for breaching an agreement to stop going to work.

The suspects allegedly beat and kicked the victim, causing serious injuries. He is being treated at Lombard State Hospital and is in a stable condition. Seven men were arrested while another suspect is yet to be arrested.
