Namibia Football Association (NFA) president Ranga Haikali said he hopes the Namibia Premier League will finally comply with the Fifa normalisation committee's directives in order for football to start.
Haikali said this after being elected as the NFA president at the association's 28th congress, which took place on Saturday at the Safari Court Hotel in Windhoek.
“We need to comply and follow all the stipulated regulations. Let's avoid courts and solve our problems and make this country great again,” Haikali said.
“He further lauded the normalisation committee (NC) and Fifa for having normalised Namibian football.
He however believes the task is now up to him and his executive to carry on the work and restore order in the beautiful game.
“I am overwhelmed and have to thank the nation for having been patient with the NC to do its work.
“They were under a lot of pressure and expectations but we have to give them and Fifa compliments for having done a good job.
“Namibia is close to football being normalised and we hope that we will be able to work together as a team,” he reiterated.
Haikali will lead the NFA for the next four years, replacing Frans Mbidi, who was removed by the former NFA executive in 2018.
He added that he was looking forward to a smooth transition from the NC.
“We will share with the media our short- and long-term plans for the game in due course,” Haikali noted.
The NC has until 15 March to hand over the executive committee to Haikali.
During Saturday's congress, the Namibia Premier League (NPL) was given the chance to present on their suspension by the NC last year.
Subsequently, the NFA members voted 20 in favour of the NPL suspension to continue, with two votes for the suspension to be lifted as per the provisions of the NFA Constitution.
The financials were deferred to an extraordinary congress as the auditors are still finalising a report.
Haikali defeated Johnny Doeseb 20 votes to two to take the presidency and it was a similar win for Izak Fredericks against Michael Sidute for the first vice president post.
Sidute then threw in the towel for the second vice president position, leaving Rudolph Haingura to be declared the winner.
Sidute withdrew from the executive committee elections, from which Doeseb too had withdrawn at the start of the congress.
John Sinime was absent and thus ineligible from the exco votes.

Presidential challenger Johnny Doeseb congratulated his rival, stating that the process was fair and done in a good spirit.
“I believe this was fair and we must always respect the views of people in a democratic country.
“I congratulate Haikali for the victory and wish him all the best in his position as president of the NFA,” he said.
