Police search for missing girl
A 15-year-old girl from Okuryangava has been missing for two weeks after her parents received an untraceable call warning them not to look for her.
Windhoek police have made a public appeal to help find a missing 15-year-old girl who was last seen more than two weeks ago.
Lydia Kweenda, a grade 9 learner at Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School, was last seen on 24 May at around noon at erf 19/14, Ongava Street in Okuryangava.
Namibian police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edward Kanguatjivi last week issued an appeal to the public to come forward if they have any information on her whereabouts.
He said her disappearance was “quite suspicious”. Her mother, Saima Shiipa, received “an anonymous phone call on 28 May at around 14:00, urging her not to look for her daughter. The anonymous number remains unreachable to date.”
Kanguatjivi said the family and her parents have tried to trace her, but their efforts have been in vain.
The girl's parents on Friday confirmed that the family was seriously concerned.
Her father, Alfeus Kweenda, told Namibian Sun that she had gone missing before, but never longer than two or three days.
“She has never been gone this long. She always comes back. We feel very bad and very worried,” he said.
He further said she did have a boyfriend, but the family did not know his identity.
The Khomas regional crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Abner Agas, told Namibian Sun on Friday that it was possible that she was with a boyfriend but there was very little information for the police to work with.
He appealed to neighbours and friends with any more information to come forward and share that information.
Agas said the police are worried. “It is very concerning. The girl is very young, and in the care of her parents. It's not only a concern to us, but for her family too.”
