Orlando Pirates assistant coach Geoffrey Roman says the club and the coaching staff are racing against time to get quality players for the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) transitional season and the proper season ahead.

Pirates, who were part of the relegated clubs in the expelled Namibia Premier League, will now play in the newly launched NPFL.

The club began its preparations on Saturday with a match against a team that also plans on taking part in first division football, Standard Bank DTS HopSol Football Club.

Roman will be assisting the much-travelled Woody Jacobs, who was appointed the coach of the club.

“We’re looking at building a team for the transitional league and the season that is going to follow in August.

“Right now, we are having difficulty in finding qualify players due to the time frame we have been given.

“We have, however, been doing exceptionally with the limitations that we have been facing,” Roman said.

Exciting times

The coach further expressed excitement for the future, adding that the club is in a good place at the moment.

He said he believes the club’s management has done enough to be at a level where they will be able to compete and move forward in the right direction.

“We are, however, hoping that we can get a few more players before the transitional league starts.

“It is for this reason that we are working with some players that can bring quality and the depth in the squad,” Roman added.

He is also calling on Orlando Pirates faithfuls to stand behind the club when they attempt to bring back the glory days.

“I want to guarantee the Orlando Pirates faithfuls that with what we have collected right now and what we are bringing through the development ranks, they should be expecting good things from the team.”

Pirates are drawn in Group 2 of the transitional league, which is made up of Civics, Citizens, Julinho Sporting, Young Brazilians and Blue Waters.

The other group is comprised of Mighty Gunners, Tigers, Eleven Arrows, Young African, Tura Magic and Black Africa.
