Pirates boosted by victory over Arrows
Orlando Pirates boosted their survival hope with a much-needed 2-0 win against Eleven Arrows in an MTC Namibia Premier League encounter at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay on Sunday.
The match took a dramatic twist in the 15th minute when referee Jonas Shongeti sent off Arrows midfielder Martin Shimaneni for a rash challenge in his half.
Pirates dominated proceedings in the match despite also having a player of theirs, Jackson Eliakim, sent off in the second half.
The away side's goals came towards the end of the match from Denzel Narib and Magnus Duncan.
In a post-match interview, Orlando Pirates head coach Lucky Kakuva expressed his delight and attributed the success to tactical changes he had made during the match.
“It was a tough match against a very good Arrows team. They got a red card early in the first half and we started to dominate play but somehow our guys were a bit in a hurry. So we regrouped during halftime and then decided to change our formation to play with three strikers and it started to work.
“We had to play man to man and keep possession of the ball, stress them a bit and switch balls and then we made tactical changes which enabled us to score our two goals.
“From there on we started to dominate the match until the end. Congratulations to my boys and tough luck to Eleven Arrows. Overall it was a good game,” said Kakuva.
According to Eleven Arrows head coach Robert Nauseb his team needs to regroup and plan how they can improve in upcoming games.
“The early decision from the referee put us under pressure with the red card. I don't know what really happened for the player to get the red card but that determined the whole game. We still had the game under control but tough luck to us.
“We just have to go back to the drawing board and see what we can fix, but it's the same things over and over every day and to give a performance like this is very poor,” said Nauseb.
