Patriotism will save Namibia
Samuel Nambili writes;
I observed that people have mixed feelings about pre-colonial names being changed by the President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
No proud African person should criticise the radical move of changing of our political regions and towns from colonial names and restoring them to their original native/indigenous names.
This is of course, if such a Namibian is not morally short of patriotism and nationalism.
Somehow it is seen as natural for some people to be born very critical and they can't accept new developments.
They are always having difficultly adapting to changes, no matter how good these are for morality's sake. Reactionaries are used to the past and have become obsessed with colonial scepticism.
It is high time now fellow Namibians to tune ourselves to the doctrine and realise that our national culture and interests are superior to any other foreign advocacy or slang.
The name Zambezi means Great River in the African native language of the Tsonga people.
We should appreciate the name Zambezi, because it is a pure African name, unlike that well-known name of a German chancellor, where the Caprivi used to get its name.
He was a total oppressor African people and it is a Eurocentric name. The same applies to the newly renamed town and constituency of Lüderitz, which is now called !Nami#nus.
!Nami#nus was called Angra Pequena by Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Dias. It was later renamed Lüderitz town, after Franz Adolf Lüderitz, a German.
Namibians let us decolonise our mind of alien names that have haunting memories to us.
