Opena - 14th album

Opena, which when directly translated means pen, is Tate Buti's second album he has released on his own.

Opena, like all of Tate Buti's albums, was not written but made from him simply walking into the studio and going on to the mic.

The 20-track album was made over two months and features artists like Young T and Top Cheri. The album, produced by DJ Glo, is yet another lyrically playful piece and has a variety of sounds.

The album is titled Opena because according to him, people are introduced to using pens to write especially their names in primary school.

“I decided that it is time for me to use a pen to know how to write my own name.

I know how to write the T in Tate Buti. I have over 400 released songs and 300 more that are not released. I don't release something that I don't like.

So all my songs on this album are good,” he says.

With Opena being his 14th album, Tate Buti says this would be worth recognition in other countries as it is an achievement that deserves recognition but here, such work goes unnoticed.

“It's a process; you don't just make it overnight. Kashipu kaa.

“Upcoming artists must also know that all is doing through hard work.

“The problem is they smoke marijuana but that will only help you once, after that it ruins your talent and then they start having Rastas on the head,” he said.

The singer, who left Omalaeti, referred to being with the production company like that of a tertiary student's life. “You go there and learn a lot of things and you graduate and move on.

“You even sneak out of the house to go to Monaco, it is all part of it. Nothing much has changed because I'm now doing them legally,” said Tate Buti.

The album will only be sold as hardcopies and is available in retail shops countrywide including Street House.

Tate Buti will be releasing music videos to accompany the album.
