Omusati hosts Last Dollar football tourney
The Last Dollar Football Tournament will be introduced in the Omusati Region this weekend.
Local businessman Kristof Shingwilila Nikodemus initiated the tournament, which will be played on Saturday and Sunday at the Omuulukila sport field in the Outapi Constituency.
He has given N$5 550 for the event to promote health and fitness among the youth and create a platform for young people to showcase their talent.
Nikodemus, affectionately known as ''Last Dollar'', said he believes the tournament will prepare young footballers for future national teams and at the same time keep them from undesirable activities such as alcohol and drug abuse.
The chairperson of the tournament''s organising committee, Vaino Shimutwikeni, said all local football teams were invited to compete.
The registration fee is N$500 per football team and the first prize will be N$2 500, a floating trophy and gold medals.
The runners-up get N$1 500 and silver medals and the third-placed team gets N$1 000 and bronze medals.
Cash prizes will also be given to the player of the tournament; best behaved team; and ''golden boot'' winner.
The organisers plan to make it an annual event.
