Omaruru to host Zeraua Royal House tournament

The town of Omaruru in the Erongo Region will host the Chief Christian Eerike Zeraua Royal House Cup from October 4 to 5. Jeffrey Kavendjii of the Zeraua Traditional Authority on Tuesday announced a sponsorship worth N$40 000 from Bucks Construction and Cleaning Services towards the two-day netball and football tournament. The tournament will serve as the 88th anniversary celebration of the Zeraua Royal Family, and will be held at the Maboke Stadium. Speaking during a media briefing on Tuesday, event organiser Andrew Tjahikika said the tournament will serve as a commemorative event and a way to keep the youth busy with sport. “Last year we had a N$30 000 sponsorship but this year the sponsorship has been improved to N$40 000. We are calling on all netball or football teams to come to Omaruru and have fun with us,” said Tjahikika. “The tournament will be at a good standard and enjoyable after this year’s prizes were increased,” the organiser said, adding that accommodation will be provided for the teams. N$28 000 will go towards football while N$12 000 is set aside for the netball tournament. The winning football team will walk away with N$14 000, while the runners-up will get N$7 000 and semi-final losers N$3 500 each. In the netball category the winners will walk away with N$6 000. The runners-up will win N$3 000 and the semi-finals losers N$1 500 each. Registration per team will be N$1 500 and the draw will take place at the Katutura Community Hall in Windhoek on September 30. For more information about the tournament, interested parties can contact Tjahikika at 081 414 6072 or Stanley Kahirimana at 081 305 6094. -Additional reporting Lukas Nambala. WINDHOEK–NAMPA
