No bail for Avis Dam murder accused
KRISTIEN KRUGER
WINDHOEK
The three men arrested in connection with the murder of Daniele Ferrari (52) at the Avis Dam were remanded in custody when they appeared before the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Magistrate Ivan Gawanab said the three - Kefas Iileka (33), Johannes Muzabdma (32) and Muvua Antonio Vanuzo Cheme (25) – would have to stay behind bars until the hearing of a formal bail application on 9 April 2021.
State prosecutor Ntelamo Mabuku had opposed the granting of bail because of the seriousness of the crime and the fact that the investigation was still in its early stages.
It would not be in the interest of the public to release the accused on bail, he said.
The three men are charged with murder, aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Iileka and Muzabdma were arrested on Monday after Ferrari's wallet, watch and clothes were found in their possession.
Panga attack
Ferrari was attacked by three men armed with a panga and a knife at the Avis Dam around 18:45 on 14 July. Two runners tried to help Ferrari and he managed to run to his car, but his assailants followed him and murdered him in his car.
One of the runners was also hacked with the panga and sustained serious injuries.
The three accused indicated that they would apply for Legal Aid representation.
