NFA offer rejected by ‘expensive’ Shipanga
Details have emerged on why the NFA rejected acting technical director Jacqueline Shipanga’s contract request - after she demanded more than what the current secretary-general earns.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) is still without a permanent technical director (TD) after Jaqueline Shipanga and the association failed to reach an agreement as to how much the new TD was set to earn.
It is alleged that both parties reached a consensus earlier last year that Shipanga will act in the position because they felt the request did not warrant the job on the table.
This is after Shipanga, who previously led the NFA’s women’s desk, was shortlisted and selected as a suitable permanent candidate for the position.
The NFA then allegedly offered her a contract which they believe merited the position.
It was at this time that Shipanga allegedly requested for more money from the NFA, given the nature of the work she would be doing.
NFA secretary-general Franco Cosmos yesterday confirmed that Shipanga has been acting in the position after turning down what the association offered her on a permanent basis.
“Shipanga did not agree to the offer given to her and that is why she is just acting.
“She was given an offer but requested for more because of the nature of the job, which she deemed as stressful.
“I gave the offer to the NFA exco at that time but they also rejected it, stating that they were unable to afford her on permanent basis,” Cosmos said.
Impasse
This has prompted the NFA to come up with plans to search for a new permanent TD.
As things stand, the association is unable to advertise the position or appoint someone due to rampant infighting.
“We would love to appoint someone on a permanent basis but that is impossible at the moment because of the current situation.
“We all know that the NFA is unable to make decisions following the infighting and we are hopeful that will end in order for us to start making some of those appointments,” Cosmos added.
Not easy
The position was advertised last year as requiring a minimum of a Confederation of African Football B-licence and a relevant degree as well as a minimum of five years of experience as coach, technical director or sports manager.
The position also requires a wide knowledge of football in Namibia and expertise in football education.
TDs are usually appointed to improve football development and human resources management. They also consider technical aspects that help achieve development objectives.
The position has been vacant since the removal of Timo Tjongarero, who had been acting since 2015 after Klaus Starke left to return to Germany.
Attempts to get hold of Shipanga before going to print proved unfruitful.
