NFA calls up 33 for U/20 AFCON

The NFA has called up 33 players, with the final team to face Botswana in the first round to be announced two weeks prior to the first leg in Botswana on the weekend of 30 March. In preparation for the upcoming 2019 CAF Under-20 AFCON qualifiers, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently announced the draw for Niger 2019 AFCON U/20 and Namibia will face neighbours Botswana at the first round with the first leg in Gaborone between 30 March to 1 April and the second leg in Windhoek slated for 20-22 April. To this end, 33 players are in the provisional squad with the first training camp having started on Thursday and the second camp set for 8 to 11 March at the NFA Technical Centre. NFA secretary-general Barry Rukoro said other players might be identified during the 2018 The Namibian Newspaper Cup during the Easter weekend to be considered for the second leg. The winner of the Namibia/Botswana tie will proceed to the second round to face Congo in May, with the winner of that meeting advancing to the third and final round of the qualifiers where Senegal or Egypt wait in July.The final tournament will be hosted by Niger in 2019 with the four semi-finalists qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, whose host will be announced next month.
