New LRC for De Duine

De Duine Secondary School in Walvis Bay has announced its learner representative council (LRC) for 2020.

With the new changes to the school curriculum, both grade 11 and grade 12 learners were selected to be part of the LRC. This year’s chairperson is Juandro van Rooi, and the vice-chairperson is Simone !Ganes.

The rest of the team consists of Charlton Hoeseb (environmental affairs), Benjamin David (recreation), Kyle Roubain (deputy treasurer), Chanfranco Mouton (head of discipline), Tangeni Matheus (media), Leonard Clarke (academics), Gaylord Shangadi (head of academics), Cornelius Simasiku (public relations officer), Fergie So-oabeb (academics), Zadian Campbell (head of sports), Luciano Otta (deputy treasurer), Macquillan Brussel (deputy head boy), Chante Corozain (discipline), Chloé Cloete (deputy secretary), Thando Phiri (recreation), Lavinia Shawapala (academics), Ayesha Olivier (secretary), Alicia Cloete (recreation deputy), Yvonne Mafita (sports deputy), Shakira Strauss (treasurer), Lischen Bull (academics), Jeneva Botha (deputy headgirl), Elzette Inkono (recreation), Claire Kleinsmith (head of environmental affairs), Mea Hein (media), Tulihongeni Hailkola (deputy public relations officer), Jo-Ann van der Walt (environmental affairs), Jame-Lee Benade (media) and Celine de Klerk (media).

New chairperson Juandro Van Rooi reacted with shock when his name was announced.

“I still can’t quite believe it but I am going to make the most of this opportunity,” he said.

Van Rooi also heads the editorial team of the school newspaper, Duine se Lyne, is the public relations officer of the junior town council and plays rugby too.

“Prioritising and time management are key, plus my academics will always remain number one. My fellow learners should remember to enjoy school and work hard because the adult world is waiting for us around the corner,” he advised.
