New face at NAM Comedy Circle

The forthcoming NAM Comedy Circle event promises to be bigger and better.

Following a widely advertised auditions held by the NAM Comedy Circle team end of July this year, a new face is being introduced to comedy audiences come Wednesday, 25 September, when NAM Comedy Circle resumes at the Hilton Kalabar.

Isdor Kamati stood out, demonstrating that he had the right ingredients to become a comedian of note. The courage, energy to challenge himself, the desire to make others laugh and the ability to invent and present personal stories are some of the elements that made him stand out. Born in Outapi 23 years ago, Kamati grew up in Windhoek to become a librarian, a profession he says he loves a lot. During his studies he flirted with acting and participated in a theatre student's examination in 2017 and that is where his personal live performance experience ends. So far, his forte is the impersonation of leading figures of Namibian society, past and present, of which he will give the audience a taste next week Wednesday.

If within the army of stand-up comedians, Kamati debuts as a rookie, Kris with a K has advanced to the rank of lieutenant following a stunning performance at NAM Comedy Circle back in May. His rendition of the escapades of an Air Namibia pilot, who assumes the behaviour and mannerism of your average Katutura taxi driver, had the audience laughing hard. Another hit was his sketch on first attempts at the never-ending game of courting with the objects of his advances claiming that he was either too short, too black or too poor for their taste. The part-time comedian and full time arts honours degree in media and drama student (or is it the other way around?) has been extremely busy in pursuing his stand-up art over the past three years, which saw him performing at major comedy occasions and venues in Namibia and going to similar events with the wider SADC diaspora.

Next up is the general of stand-up comedy in Namibia, Slick the Dick. The co-founder of Free Your Mind Entertainment is loved for his outstanding skills and ability to engage individuals within the audience - sometimes with benevolence, sometimes with disarming frankness. Not all of Slick's material is easy to digest; it takes a sharp listener to follow a sharp tongue.

Well-known and much loved stand-up comedian and MC Mark Kariauua will navigate the all-star cast through the evening. He is also responsible for the fair and he insists, transparent allocation of the various generous prizes that are to be won courtesy of the Hilton Hotel. The prizes include a voucher for two for a day use of the gym, pool and steam room, combined with a 50% discount at the Hilton Breeze Spa, a dinner for two at the D'vine Wine & Sushi outlet or at the Ekipa Interactive dinner buffet.

The show starts at 20:00 and entrance is free.
