Namibian middleweight boxer Lukas 'The Demolisher' Ndafoluma says he is grateful for the lessons 2020 has taught him, despite having his back against the wall on several occasions.
Having battled stress and depression following nationwide lockdowns and cancellations of sport events due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ndafoluma says he appreciates being alive.
“This was really not an easy year and I am grateful that I am so close to reaching 2021.
“So many things happened and we were all just not at a happy place given what the coronavirus has brought upon us. “It has been no secret that we have all suffered a great deal of confusion and stress during this year but we are approaching the end and that is a good thing,” Ndafoluma said. Ndafoluma, who last fought in November, is confident that bigger things will come in the future.
The MTC Salute Boxing Academy fighter stopped his opponent, Christian Utelo, with a fifth-round technical knockout in their middleweight bout which was scheduled for eight rounds.
Looking ahead
“I was actually happy that I at least got to fight towards the end of the year, which was something I highly appreciate given the circumstances we find ourselves in.
“I am however hoping that the year 2021 will be kinder and allow us to do what we love to do in the ring.
“As a boxer, it is important to continue working hard and making sure that you get a shot at the world title.
“Lastly, I would like to wish all my fans and Namibians a great festive season and please do look after yourselves.”
