Naweseb debuts in Uzbekistan

Namibian forward McCartney Naweseb found himself on the score sheet at the weekend for his Uzbekistan club Qiziqum Zarafshon Football Club in the Uzbekistan Professional Football League top division.

The Namibian forward, who plied his trade for Black Africa before signing a two-year contract deal with Qiziqum Zarafshon, said scoring on his debut was memorable.

Just last week, Naweseb signed with the club and even though his club ended up losing 3-1 to Nasaf, he said the encouragement and trust the coach has in him will push him to greater heights. “He pulled me to the side and told me to do my best. It was overwhelming and I hope with God's grace it continues so,” he said.

He added that playing in Central Asia is a big change. “The environment is quite different from what I'm used to. The fans really enjoy and support their football teams with everything they have.

Qiziqum Zarafshon are currently 11th on the 14-team log. The Namibian player has three caps for the national side, which he joined in May 2019. He was with BA since 2018.
