NamPol in five-star performance

The men in uniform had lost their two opening games in Walvis Bay against Western Spurs and Northern Stars, and the Blue Boys match was a must-win for them.

Khomas Namibian Police (NamPol) eased their relegation woes against PC Blue Boys in a five-star performance at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday in a 5-2 victory.

Blue Boys however had plans of their own when former Orlando Pirates gaffer Christy //Guruseb's charges took the game to the uniformed men.

Blue Boys pressed for the opener, with Fillemon Swartz threatening the rear guard of NamPol with clever runs and powerful shots from outside the box.

It was just a matter of time before the deadlock was broken when the NamPol player fouled Swartz for a free-kick. Swartz dusted himself off and scored a beauty from the resulting free-kick to take the lead.

NamPol's coach, Gareth #Eichab, pushed his wingbacks to attack more and the move paid off when Diogenus Indeimo scored the equaliser just before halftime.

The teams were locked one-all at halftime. Khomas NamPol came out a rejuvenated team in the second half and scored soon after the restart through the boot of Petrus Johannes to make it 2-1.

Blue Boys were still regrouping when NamPol hit them again and scored after the Blue Boys defence was caught napping. Eliakim Ndjava slotted his team's third goal past the hapless Blue Boys goalkeeper to put daylight between the two teams.

Sensing victory, Eichab hauled off Tangeni Amugongo for Erastus Hashipala. Hashipala scored soon thereafter to make the score 4-1 in favour of NamPol, who were playing at a walking pace and passing the ball in their opponent's half.

It was just a matter of time before the Blue Boys' defence was caught off guard and Johannes scored his brace and fifth goal of the game.

Late in the second half, Aubrey Namaseb pulled one back for the Walvis Bay team to make the score-line look respectable.

Approached after the match, Guruseb said a lack of concentration was to blame for his team's performance.

“We lost concentration in the second half and the two goals we conceded was the turning point of the game. Congrats to NamPol for a great game and win,” //Guruseb said.

He said they need to regroup for the upcoming games and try and collect maximum points.
