Namibian hockey back in action
The MTC Namibian Outdoor Hockey senior men’s and women’s teams to compete in the Afcon qualifiers in Zimbabwe have been announced.

Namibia has selected a group of players for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) hockey qualifiers which will take place in Zimbabwe in May.
The Namibian Hockey Federation released the names of 23 male players and 19 female players.
The outdoor qualifiers will take place from 1 to 9 May in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The names of the men’s squad are:
Christopher D’Alton, David Britz, DJ Strauss, Ivan-Mendes Semedo, Percy Barthram, Alex Kurangera, Baggio Karigub, Brynn Cleak, Cody van der Merwe, Craig McNally, Dakota Hansen, Damien Schutz, Fagan Hansen, Joseph van Niekerk, Liam Hermanus, Nico Neethling, Owen Hatton, Richter van Rooyen, Dylan Finch, Ernest Jacobs, Matukaranove Kavikairiua, Nico Jacobs and JP Britz.
The women’s side consists of:
Petro Stoffberg, Sunelle Ludwig, Gillian Hermanus, Jivanka Kruger, Sasha Brinkman, Armin van Staden, Gatlin Gillies, Joane van Rooyen, Kiana Cormack , Danja Meyer, Cele Wessels, Azeylee Philander, Tara Myburgh, Kaela Schimming, Jaime Gillies, Amber Dercksen, Anthea Coetzee and Britta Haensel.
Indoor trials start today
While these players prepare for the outdoor tournament, Erwin Haindura, head coach of the senior women’s team, said that trials will be this week at the Windhoek Showgrounds to select a team that will represent the country at the Indoor Africa Cup of Nations competition slated for 15 to 18 April in Durban, South Africa.
Haindura said the winner of the competition will represent the African continent at the sixth Indoor Hockey World Cup scheduled for Liege, Belgium, in from 3 to 6 February 2022.
