Namibian fighters ready for battle

Walvis Bay based Namibian MMA & Kickboxing Academy fighters are competing at the inaugural Arnold Classic Africa competition in Pretoria from 27 May to 19 June.The event is being launched in South Africa as a multisport and exhibition extravaganza. It includes a three-day Health and Fitness Trade Expo and 30 000 people expected to attend where approximately 10 000 athletes will be in action.Vicky Stiemert, Philip Müller, Julian Müller, Delano Müller and Lesley Hoaeb will represent Namibia against fighters from South Africa in their respective weight divisions. It will be the first time that Vicky Stiemert will represent Namibia in kickboxing and it’s expected that she will excel since she’s in top form. Delano Müller will take on Thabiso Mkwabane in the 35kg weight division. Vicky Stiemert will face Nadine Janse Van Rensburg in the 63kg division. Julian Müller will battle Johan Scholz in the 83kg division. Lesley Hoaeb will tackle Samuel Sathikge in the 73kg division. The annually hosted Arnold Sports Festival celebrates numerous sporting codes. It is named after the legendary professional body-builder, Arnold Schwarzenegger and offers athletes a chance to compete against the international elite and fans to meet world renowned personalities.The Arnold Classic was first launched in the US as a professional bodybuilding competition in 1989 but has since expanded to create an international series of multi-sport festivals, driven by ArnoldSchwarzenegger, who is renowned as a seven-time Mr Olympia, Hollywood star and former Governor of California.A host of global giants, including some of the world’s strongest men and fittest women, will take on promising local contenders as they battle for top honours at the inaugural Arnold Classic Africa.Boxing will share the stage with 46 other sports codes during the three-day festival. The event also includes a Strongman competition accommodating challenges such as lifting cars, pulling trucks and flipping tires. The organisers introduced a quality line-up which includes Hafbór Thor Björnsson of Iceland, who portrays ‘Mountain’ in the TV series Game of Thrones. A number of other global powerhouse athletes are set to compete for a lucrative R800 000 Strongman prize purse. The entry list for the Arnold Classic Africa Pro Bodybuilding competition is also impressive, with R1.5 million in prize money on the line.WALVIS BAY OTIS FINCK
