Namibia to host Oman, UAE

Fresh from the T20 Cricket World Cup, the Eagles of Namibia will take on the Oman and United Arab Emirates (UAE) cricket teams in the ninth round of Cricket World Cup League 2 at Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek, in an eight-day one-day international tournament.
The tournament will be a Castle Light series which will kick off this Friday, and run until 6 December. All three countries will play each other twice during the double round-robin group stage format in the 50-overs format.
Oman is currently at the top of the points table, having played 18 games already in the League 2 competition. Both Namibia and UAE have played only seven matches out of their scheduled 36 games so far.
The league forms part of the qualification pathway to the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Two matches that were postponed during the fourth round in January 2020 were added to the schedule of this series.
Erasmus sits out
Eagles captain Gerhard Erasmus will not be part of the squad following his injury at a T20 World Cup warm-up game. He said he believes it is a great opportunity for other members in the squad to take the lead.
The competition will be great for Namibia as it has been announced that they will co-host the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2027 with neighbouring South Africa and Zimbabwe.
This will be the first time in history Namibia hosts a major sporting event such as a world cup, and will be exciting for the country to experience competitive cricket with some of the best in the world on Namibian soil.
The Eagles squad will consist of JJ Smit (captain), Jan Frylinck, Karl Birkenstock, Ben Shikongo, Bernard Scholtz, Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Craig Williams, Michael van Lingen, Stephen Baard, Ruben Trumpelmann, Zane Green, Helao Ya France, Michau du Preez and Mauritius Ngupita. Tangeni Lungameni and Shaun Fouche will be reserves, while Pierre de Bruyn will be the head coach, assisted by Fortune Matawu.
Riaan Minnie will join the team as the analyst, while Wihan du Plessis will be the squad physiotherapist.
