Namib Mills last week donated instant maize meal sachets to the tune of N$205 000 to fight malnutrition in young children in Namibia.
The 7 500 kg maize meal donation was handed over by CEO Ian Collard and was received by Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and gender equality minister Doreen Sioka.
In 2020, 22.7% of Namibian children were said to be underdeveloped, according to the Global Nutrition Report.
“Namib Mills maintains that despite concerted efforts, sufficient nutrition is still a challenge for some Namibians. Donations such as these will not solve the underlying causes of malnutrition in the country, but will provide relief for the people to survive their daily lives,” the company said in a statement.
The donation, which amounts to 100 000 meals, will be distributed through the social welfare ministry to pre-school children.
The Prime Minister thanked Collard for the contribution, which she said has set an example for the private sector, adding that such donations can aid the country in overcoming hardships.
