N$10.6m in drugs seized in October

The Namibian police seized various types of drugs last month valued at more than N$10.6 million, while 124 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related crimes.
Of these suspects, 100 were Namibian, nine Zambian, eight Angolan, three Tanzanian and two Zimbabwean, while a Congolese and a Ghanaian national were also arrested.
According to the drug seizure and arrest report for October, drugs worth N$10.632 million were confiscated.
This included 1 051 545kg of cannabis to the value of more than N$10.5 million, 317 mandrax tablets to the value of N$38 040 and five grams of cocaine powder valued at N$2 500.
Also seized were 43 units of crack cocaine to the value N$4 300 and 400 grams of magic mushrooms valued at N$72 000.
Since February to October, 955 suspects have been arrested in connection with drug-related crimes.
According to statistics from the Namibian police, during this period, drugs to the value of more than N$32.97 million have been confiscated in Namibia, while 887 Namibians were arrested.
Statistics for January were not available.
