WBO Africa middleweight champion Lukas ‘Demolisher’ Ndafoluma has a date set with Angola’s Cristiano Ndombassy on Sunday in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
It will be Ndafoluma’s first title defence since he clinched the WBO Africa title in March this year.
“It has been a difficult period because of the pandemic but I am happy that I have got the chance to defend my title.
“I have been working hard to make sure that I am ready for anything that comes up.
“I am excited about the opportunity and would like to thank my stable for making this possible during these tough times,” Ndafoluma said.
Ndafoluma will go into the fight boasting a record of 19 wins and three losses from 22 professional fights.
He comes up against an unusual Angolan opponent who has fought 16 times, winning 12 and losing four in his professional career.
Affectionately known as the ‘Warrior of Faith’, underdog Ndombassy will be eager to cause an upset and relieve Ndafoluma of the prestigious African title.
Ndafoluma’s promoter, Kiriata Kamanya, says the fight could have been staged in Windhoek, but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 regulations.
“We unfortunately had to move this fight to South Africa because of the lockdown restrictions banning contact sports in Namibia.
“Ndafoluma must defend his title otherwise he will lose it, and that is why we needed to improvise so that he can remain active and keep his world ranking,” Kamanya said.
Excitement
It is expected to be a busy night away from home for the MTC Salute boxing stable, with Immanuel Josef making his continental title debut when he takes on Sihle Jelwana of South Africa for the vacant WBO Africa flyweight title.
A win for Josef would provide him a golden opportunity to get into the WBO world rankings.
Tomas Shifiona will get an opportunity to fight Bheki Mahlangu over six rounds.
“We are excited that we will have two WBO title fights on the same night and a third fight, which is great for our stable.
“We will ensure that the fans here are able to watch the fight live and we will share details in due course,” Kamanya said.
