MTC now offers 4G prepaid

Mobile operator MTC this week announced that it is expanding its next generation 4G LTE internet service to prepaid platforms. The company was the first Namibian operator last year to introduce the faster standard internet access in bundled form. TN Mobile launched its 4G option for prepaid users two weeks ago. The new MTC product uses a 4G LTE USB device, which along with a special SIM card, can be obtained from MTC mobile at a price of N$298. Users can obtain prepaid access for as little as N$30 per hour, at speeds of up to 100 Megabytes per second (Mbps). &ldquo;As a 4G prepaid product, since the speed is dramatically fast, the correct way to offer it to the market is through charging per time rather than per volume usage, otherwise the customer would need to be constantly recharging,&rdquo; MTC Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo, said. &ldquo;This prepaid offer compliments the current Netman 4G Postpaid packages, since prepaid requires a recharge when the airtime is depleted, while postpaid gives to the customer the convenience of not having to stop while surfing the internet,&rdquo; Ekandjo added. Suggesting the 4G option for bulk-users who cannot &ldquo;for any reason sign up for a contract&rdquo;, Ekandjo said the Netman 3G Prepaid option remains suitable for regular users. The company&rsquo;s 3G options, he said, have recently seen increases in speed, with prepaid now running at up to 7.2 Mbps, while postpaid can run as fast as 21 Mbps. At present, MTC&rsquo;s 4G LTE options are available at Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo, Keetmanshoop, Outapi, Ongwediva, Oshakati and Tsumeb.
