Mother accused of infanticide arraigned in High Court
A 23-year-old woman accused of killing her two-year-old daughter made her first appearance in the High Court in Windhoek yesterday.
Zenobia Seas is charged with murdering her daughter, Ava Antoinette Owoses, by smothering her with a cloth on the road between Henties Bay and Terrace Bay on 26 September 2016.
She is further accused of defeating or obstructing the course of justice by setting alight the child's blanket and attempting to set alight their car with the dead child inside.
Seas, who worked at the Husab Mine, was driving from Swakopmund to the mine, which is about 112 kilometres north-west of Henties Bay.
Judge Christie Liebenberg yesterday transferred Seas back to the Walvis Bay Correctional Facility because she is scheduled to undergo surgery there.
Liebenberg postponed the matter to 18 January 2018 for trial.
Advocate Antonia Verhoef appears for the State while Mpokiseng Dube represents Seas.
