Moeti removed as BA chair

Cassius Moeti is fighting back after his removal as acting Black Africa chairperson last week.

The Black Africa (BA) interim committee last week removed the club's acting chairman Cassius Moeti from his position, Namibian Sun has learnt.

Moeti, who replaced NFA president Ranga Haikali last November, was allegedly shown the boot for trying to go against the Namibia Premier League (NPL) and BA's decisions.

The BA exco however denied the allegations, stating that the decision to remove Moeti was procedural and systematic, as per the new exco rules. Sources claim that one of the reasons the club's interim committee removed Moeti was because he was tipped as the next NPL chairman and is accused of being part of those who want to remove current chairman Patrick Kauta from the position. Moeti and several others are alleged to have been hard at work in an attempt to put in a motion of no confidence against Kauta.

It is understood that Moeti was also part of the group that had supported Namibia Football Association (NFA) members to vote for the official NPL suspension at the association's 28th congress last month.

It is for these reasons that the NPL vice-chairperson, who is also BA's executive member, Kadas 'Boni' Paulino, and co-club interim committee members allegedly took the decision to remove Moeti.

Moeti however felt the decision to oust him holds no grounds and is not legitimate.

He insisted that the interim committee had no right to remove him without the approval of the BA supporters club, which currently owns 100% of the team.

“The committee convened a meeting without me even after I told them that I was not available because of valid reasons.

“I just realised when getting the minutes of the meeting that I have been removed from the position,” Moeti said.

He claimed that the meeting was planned in such a way to make a coup possible.

He however remains positive that the decision by the interim committee will not be accepted by the supporters club.

“BA was one of the clubs that stood against NPL's decision to start an independent league with MTC's money.

“I believe that things are being done in order to influence the club's decisions so that the NPL can have control over what the club has to say.

“I am calling a meeting with all the supporters on Sunday, 8 March.

“As things stand, I can say that I am still the legitimate acting chairman of BA until the supporters decide otherwise,” Moeti said.

Prior to the meeting which removed Moeti, the other executive members were Browney Mutrifa (vice-chairperson), Debbie Hobexas (secretary), Scara Khaiseb, Lakka Goagoseb, Rebecka Goagoses, Paulino and Doris Lamperth.

The meeting replaced Moeti with Goagoseb, while Lamperth was chosen as vice-chairperson. Sources claim that Mutrifa is linked to efforts by Paulino and Kauta to allegedly capture BA and neutralise Moeti because he is tipped as the NPL's next chairman.

New BA chairman Goagoseb however rebuffed claims that Moeti's removal had ties to what is happening between the premier league and NFA.

It is a procedure which he said the club agreed on, which will see the chairman rotated every three months.

“Moeti was not unseated, but he was replaced as agreed upon when he was named chairman in November. We all agreed that the position will be rotated among all executives after a period of three months and that is what happened,” Goagoseb said.

BA interim exco member Khaiseb said he was not in a position to comment on whether Moeti's removal was fair or not because he was not at the meeting.

He however expressed concern over the period which a chairman has in power before being rotated.

“The chairman only has three months, which I believe is a short period of time for him/her to do anything. “I would have at least preferred that the chairman be given a year before they are replaced,” Khaiseb noted.

Calls to Mutrifa were unsuccessful as his phone was off, while Paulino was unable to speak at the time of going to print.
