A three-day tournament that featured different mining employees from across the country, which took place at Otjiwarongo from Friday to Sunday, has been described as a huge success.

Participants at the Paresis Sports Stadium said the event was held in good spirit.

Otjikoto B2Gold Mine public relations coordinator Monika Shipanga said the event was peaceful, well-organised and took place as planned.

Shipanga said more than 700 employees from De Beers Marine, Ohorongo Cement, Namdia, Rosh Pinah Zinc Corporation, Swakop Uranium, Cheetah Cement, Rössing Uranium, Namdeb, Skorpion Zinc, Tschudi, Dundee and hosts B2Gold competed with each other in football, netball, volleyball, tug-of-war and pool.

B2Gold won both the football and volleyball games, while Rosh Pinah Zinc Corporation were the champions in the pool and netball games and Namdeb won the darts competition.

Dundee Precious Metals employees won the football legends category for players above 35, while Swakop Uranium won the tug-of-war.

Winners at the tournament received N$7 500 for first place, gold medals and floating trophies.

Those in second place received N$4 500 and silver medals, while those in third place bagged N$3 000 and bronze medals.
