Miners gear up for games
Swakop Uranium, Dundee Precious Metal, Tschudi Basil Read, B2Gold, Navachab, Rosh Pinah Zinc and Namdeb are expected to participate in soccer, netball, volleyball, pool and darts.
Mining companies across the country are gearing up for the 2018 Skorpion Zinc Inter-Mines Sport Games, which will take place from 5 to 7 October at the Skorpion Sports Park in Rosh Pinah.
The games are hosted annually as a wellness initiative that aims to promote health and productivity, while also serving as an interactive platform within the local mining sector.
The teams from Swakop Uranium, Dundee Precious Metal, Tschudi Basil Read, B2Gold, Navachab, Rosh Pinah Zinc and Namdeb are expected to participate in soccer, netball, volleyball, pool and darts.
The organising committee is highly confident that everything will go according to plan.
The committee said the facilities are of a good standard and the teams have prepared well.
The committee further lauded the Skorpion Zinc management, as well as other businesses, for their support.
“We are delighted to host the fifth inter-mines games. We have some of the best facilities and promise the visiting teams they will have a great sporting weekend.”
“We are all set and ready to welcome our fellow colleagues to this event. While it is a socialising platform, we also believe that it is a platform to share ideas, improve and cultivate a safety culture,” Skorpion Zinc head of corporate affairs, Nora Ndopu, said.
“We expect teams to arrive on Thursday and for the games to kickoff on Friday, with the official opening set for 18:00. The event is free of charge.”
