Man fatally stabs himself after threatening girlfriend

A man fatally stabbed himself with a broken bottle at Gobabis on Saturday after an argument with his girlfriend during which he threatened to beat her with a fence pole.

According to the police, the 29-year-old man died at Tswana Block residential area in Epako after he had stabbed himself with a broken bottle.

It is alleged that the man had grabbed his girlfriend by her throat and threatened to beat her with a pole. The woman managed to escape and ran away.

“After that, the deceased purportedly walked to the skip where he took empty bottles, broke the bottles into pieces and stabbed himself, which led to severe bleeding,” the police said.

The man was rushed to the Gobabis State Hospital where he died.

In a separate incident at Keetmanshoop a 41-year-old man was stabbed by a 33-year-old man following an argument over meat on Friday.

The two men, who were apparently friends, were drinking ginger beer and the suspect apparently confronted the deceased over meat. A quarrel apparently erupted between them and the deceased insulted the suspect. This resulted in the suspect pulling out a bread knife and stabbing the victim.

In another incident the owner of a lodge near Keetmanshoop allegedly shot and killed a suspect during a robbery on Sunday night. Another suspect was injured and taken to hospital. A third suspect escaped.

According to the police the incident happened at midnight on Sunday at the Quiver Tree Lodge, located about 10 kilometres outside of Keetmanshoop.

A 15-year-old girl was raped by two men at Maltahöhe on Sunday. It is alleged that the two men, aged 30 and 34, invited the girl to their house and raped her. Both suspects were arrested.

In another incident at Othimbika village, a 20-year-old man was apparently raped by a man who is a teacher at his school on Saturday.

It is alleged that the teacher called the victim to his bar, bought him a beer and later called him into his bedroom at the bar and raped him. No arrest has been made.

At Ondangwa a 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old man who broke into her flat on Friday.

According to the police the man threatened to kill her if she screamed and raped her. The man, a tenant in the same block of flats, was arrested.
