The Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards to kick of Windhoek Fashion Week
''''GET THOSE OUTFITS READY'''', ''''WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR'''', are some of the familiar phrases that have been going around on social media synonymous to the Windhoek Fashion Week!
With only a matter of days until the first ever Fashion Week to hit Namibia, fashion lovers at large are gearing up to what seems to be the highlight on the Namibian entertainment and fashion calendar. The Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards organisers have confirmed that they''ve finalised the list of nominees after having received hundreds of nomination entry bids from the public across Africa.
The Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards is an award event and a celebration of fashion in Uganda, and across Africa. The annual celebration awards were started in 2013 by the Abryanz Franchise and the objective was to recognise the movers and shakers of the fashion industry setting trends in Uganda. After a successful three year run, this year, we are embracing the continent, crossing from East Africa to the rest of Africa, recognising fashion icons that are steering Africa onto the global fashion map.
A total of eight Namibians have been nominated for this year''s ASFAs. The nominees from South Africa will attend the launch to be held on day two (3 November) at Windhoek Fashion Week - Grove Mall with Trevor Stuurman, David Tlale, Bonang Matheba and David Tlale. Wait, BONANG MATHEBA?! Local celebrities, all eight Namibian nominees, have been invited to the launch along with the South African nominees. The ASFAs will be held in Uganda on the 9th of December 2016.
Surprisingly the population at large outside the usual fashion crowd are embracing the Windhoek Fashion Week as ticket sales have begun to move swiftly and many have expressed interest to attend the shows out of shear curiosity, this is also of course, a perfect excuse to dress up for the red carpet.
Speaking of the red carpet, also dubbed as the cocktail area, Windhoek Fashion Week will be covered by local and international media. The likes of the hit lifestyle program BET A-List will be present to unpack the Namibian fashion industry while eNCA Africa covers it from a new perspective. Renowned magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Huisgenoot and GQ will also be present snapping all those extravagant looks on the red carpet and on the runway and yes, you could be featured!
The organisers are tight lipped about the details on the setup at the venue Grove Mall, because they want the public to be dazzled. “All we know for now is that it is going to be on the roof top parking area, yes that big space that is always filled with cars,” says Mavis Brega an organiser.
The models have been on a strict water & salad diet to make sure they fit perfectly in those designer garments. While on the topic, designers are equally tight lipped about their latest collections, as they want the big reveal on the runway to be a beautiful surprise.
