Letter to the president
Taveuli Gervasiu
First and foremost, allow me to thank you for this overwhelming show of confidence and of trust of the nation in you. Prior to previous congress election results of the mighty Swapo party, the ball was passing on player-by-player until the striker placed it in the far left corner of the net and after that the winning goal was celebrated. Football clubs have academies where they groom the young ones with professional skills that will take them to the first team. These players from the academy, you will even find them playing against their mother teams, to test their capabilities and credibility of being on the soccer pitch. If they win, the whole team wins and that is what I observed earlier in the morning hours of 27 November 2017 after the Swapo congress election results were announced publicly.
I am happy by the trust which you have nevertheless seen fit placed in you today, congratulations. Your Excellency Mr President, now that the cold war of the congress has ended, it’s time to rededicate our time and efforts in performing of what was entrusted to us, empowering the youth whom we call the leaders of tomorrow, create job opportunities for our starving graduates who are scattered in the streets, strengthen healthcare facilities, education and be on the forefront of agricultural production in Namibia. It’s time for “no one should feel left out” to feel part of the developing team and those who feel left out should realise their dreams and the vision of this country.
At my tender age of stepping into politics, I do not want to see my countrymen dying of poverty because of political insecurity. We must by all means fight under one banner of building peace and security in our own society, giving a Namibian child an affordable and quality education, provide them with quality health facilities and medicine, provide them with shelter to call their home, and also provide them with clean water, especially in our rural areas. Without having or giving the above mentioned services; a poor nation will always cry of hunger, the uneducated persons will always destroy what is good for them, the sick nation will always remain unproductive in what was given to them to do, and a thirsty nation shall always become manure of this land. Dear Mr President, with due respect to your office, it’s better for your nation to die by the lightning of which I am not cursing them to, instead of them being the fertiliser of this land simply because there is no helping hand to prolong their lives.
It is absolutely vital that we should be able to negotiate with the council, political leaders, business leaders, traditional leaders, local authorities and religious leaders on an equal footing, whether those negotiations concern the multiannual financial framework, the reform of agricultural, fisheries or regional policies, measures to combat poverty, climate change, financial market regulation, justice and home affairs or trade policies in order to be able to meet our goals and objectives, which we set up to help us in getting rid of all what makes a human being suffer on this planet.
For all this to work, we must also keep our own house in order. With the help of our administration, I intend to request that government line ministries such as that of health, agriculture, education and mining to mention a few, should be provided with all the supporting tools and equipment, and/or funds they need so that they can carry out their tasks as legislators to the full.
We trust you to be a president who, if necessary, fights to ensure that the executive serves a nation heartedly, a president who responds when the interests of Namibian citizens are jeopardised. A president who represents all Namibians regardless of their tribes, race, colour and religion but determined to defend the interests of their constituents. A president who will do everything in his power and in the best interest of his people to win back lost public trust in the Namibian integration process and restore public enthusiasm for Namibia!
