The gender and child welfare ministry has kicked off the construction of an early childhood development (ECD) facility for the Oshana Region at Omaalala.
The facility will include a kindergarten teachers' training centre, conference hall, offices and a kindergarten.
According to regional governor Elia Irimari, the centre is being constructed with sponsorship from the European Union (EU), while the traditional authority allocated the land.
“It will be a training centre for all the kindergarten teachers in the region. The construction will also include two other kindergartens for the region,” Irimari said.

Situated at Omaalala No. 4/D village near the Omaalala Primary School, the centre is named after former village headman, the late Kapweya Namangudu, who allocated the land to the ministry years ago.
The centre will be equipped to address kindergarten teachers' training needs, Namibian Sun has been informed.
The government is reported to have committed to ECD as a key route to the development of the potential of children, the youth and the country's workforce.
