Khomas dominates National Championships

Khomas Region athletes dominated the Bank Windhoek senior National Championships, scooping a total of 33 medals.
The games took place over the weekend at the Independence Stadium, which saw Jolene Jacobs from Khomas taking first place in the women 100-m dash.
The region got away with 10 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 11 bronze medals.
Leading the women 200-m dash was Batswana Leungo Matlhaku with team mate Goitseone Seleka taking second place on the podium.
Long-distance events were led by Nampol athletes with Lavinia Haitope taking first place in the 1 500 m race and Salmi Nduuviteko taking top spot in the 800 m event.
Haitope took second spot in the 800 m, while Leena Ekandjo grabbed a bronze medal in the 1 500 m and top spot in the 5 000 m long distance run.
Meanwhile, Hardap also made their way to the top in the 400 metre hurdles with Mariska Topnaar taking first place and team mate Rista Topnaar taking second place.
Corlia Kruger of Khomas was the shining athlete in the 100 m hurdles while Perpetua Simaata of Erongo vied for second place and Rista Topnaar taking third spot.
Para-athlete Ananias Shikongo and Johannes Nambala also competed in the competition but only Nambala made it to the finals and ended in sixth position.
Karabo Mothibi of Bostwana rose to the podium for first place in the 100 m dash, while Even Tjiviju took second place and Ismael Tjiramba third place.
A total of 35 events were held and the National Championships saw all National champions receiving cash incentives with a total value of N$84 000.
