Keeping active with SynEDGY wear

Simeone Johannes of SynEDGY seemed to be having a quiet journey as a rookie, but he is now releasing his second collection in the space of seven months!

From designing garments for celebrities, tackling events like weddings and matric balls, to mention a few - the designer is branching out into active wear. This week, he chats to tjil about his journey so far and the SynEDGY Active wear that will hit the market on Monday.

tjil (T): Since launching SynEDGY, what has the journey been like?

Simeone Johannes (SJ): It's been exactly seven months since I launched SynEDGY and the journey has been quite overwhelming. My clientele has tripled and sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in my work, but it has been an exciting journey. I've learned so much and I'm truly grateful to everyone who has trusted me with their garments.

T: What was your biggest fear when going out and starting your own line?

SJ: Definitely not making it work. Starting your own brand is a huge risk and you're not guaranteed success; every day is a gamble, each day presents you with so many challenges. It's a glacial and taunting process, but it's all worth it.

T: What can you tell us about SynEDGY Active?

SJ: The SynEDGY Active wear line was initially meant for my male clientele, because they've been demanding menswear.

It consists of starter jackets and track pants, I borrowed inspiration from the colourful 80s and each jacket is one-of-a-kind. I want to make the line very exclusive, hence only 20 sets will be available for purchase. The prices will be made available from Monday.

T: How do you want your clients to feel when they wear this active line?

SJ: I want them feel very athletic, cool, yet very fashion forward. Namibians are not the fittest people on earth, but no one wears athletic (athleisure) wear more than we do. I'm so excited to see people wear the sets.

T: What advice would you give to young designers starting out and hoping to make it in the industry?

SJ: The industry is very overwhelming, not everyone will necessarily like the garments you make, so it's very important to identify your niche. It's important to also be up-to-date with current trends, but more than anything, be true to your design identity.

Also, your clients are the most important part of your business and it's very important that you keep them satisfied, come hell or high water.
