The Namibian artists to grace the stage at this year’s festival on 5 November are none other than NAMA male and female artists of the year Big Ben and Chikune, alongside Fu Jazz Band, Suzy Eises, and the Swingers Jazz Band. The international artists include hit-maker of Nomvula Nathi Mankayi, Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbulu. This year the organisers stretched a bit far and also managed to get Roman and Julian Wassefur from Germany and Elisa Rodrigues from Portugal.
The Windhoek mayor Muesee Kazapua underlined that the importance of music in our daily life cannot be over emphasised as it is a way of expressing our feelings and emotions. “Its powerful nature allows us to have a common understanding and can unite nations without looking at geographical boundaries. Music is being used by individuals to enhance the quality of their lives,” he stated.
The organisers also announced the Windhoek Jazz Festival patron Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, Minister of Education, Arts and Culture. The 2016 Windhoek Jazz Festival is organised by the City of Windhoek with the support of its sponsors such as Windhoek Lager, Standard Bank Namibia, Air Namibia, 99 FM, Jameson, Avani Windhoek Hotel and Casino and Ad Force. The festival will take place at the Hage Geingob Stadium and gates will be open from 15:00. Tickets to the festival are available at Computicket outlets countrywide for N$250.
