Jazz Festival a hit

The City of Windhoek held its annual Jazz Festival last weekend which saw new artists step into the land of the brave for the first time, as well as the introduction of new jazz infused genres.

Local and international artists set the stage alight with mesmerising performances at the Windhoek Jazz Festival last weekend. The line-up for this year's show included performances by a host of great local artists.

Despite the fact that the number of attendees took a dip compared to earlier years, those who attended enjoyed the benefit of shorter and fewer queues, thanks to the cashless incentives. According to the City of Windhoek's spokesperson, this year attracted 2 800 people compared to the 3 068 that showed up last year, despite the ticket costs remaining unchanged.

“We attribute the slight decline to the current economic situation in the country, but we are pleased with the attendance and thank the public for the support,” said Lydia Amutenya.

Some of the audience said that the artists' line-up had musicians who are not 'jazz enough' and that the festival should not referred to as the Jazz Festival, but rather as the Windhoek Music Festival. Amutenya said the objective is to promote the jazz genre with every edition and that the City will not change the name, but rather improve the experience of the festival.
