An exciting and challenging journey reaps great rewards when followed through with great expansion of knowledge. Nicole Barkhuizen describes her journey working for Spectiles by Pupkewitz Megabuild just as great as this.
“Throughout my journey I have been able to expand my knowledge not only on the products we specialise in, but as well as what it takes to be a part of a successful team,” she says.
Barkhuizen had the opportunity to grow her career at Spectiles through hard work and learning a lot from the mentors she had. Like many other professions, Barkhuizen had to start at the bottom with guidance and support from her mentors, which she describes as excellent to bring her to where she currently finds herself.
Great moments observed by Barkhuizen include working with clients who have different personalities and styles. These styles come together effortlessly and seeing each and every project come together at the end is a great accomplishment for her. As much as dealing with different personalities and styles is great, it sometimes becomes a complete challenge.
Besides working in the most beautiful showroom in Namibia, Barkhuizen states that she is extremely privileged to have the opportunity to work with some of Namibia’s most renowned businessmen and women. Working with them and interacting on a daily basis has become her favourite thing about her job.
It is important to work and learn experiences while at work. Barkhuizen shares that she learns and continues to learn a lot about the products the company specialises in, adding that it is important to know people and grow a set network to fall on.
Daily duties
“As an interior and exterior designer, helping clients turn their dreams into a reality is the ultimate goal.
“Whether it is renovating a bathroom or designing a new home, we help with everything from selecting your tiles, sanitaryware and paint to designing a new kitchen or finishing your beautiful house off with some soft finishes such as wallpaper and fabrics,” she says.
A career in interior and exterior designing in Namibia might often be overlooked, but Barkhuizen advises young people to get educated, complete a course relevant to them, focus on building a personal brand, network and get a mentor to guide through the process.
