Healthcare workers get cellphone boost

Twenty cellphones were donated by the office of Erongo governor Neville Andre to the regional health directorate in order to assist healthcare workers in executing their duties.
The donation took place during last week's Covid-19 media briefing at the Swakopmund municipal chambers on Friday.
According to Andre, the healthcare workers often do not have enough airtime to call people while tracing those who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 cases.
“Healthcare workers face a challenge of communicating and contacting these contacts. My office has some funds available and I am happy today to handover 20 phones with credit to the Erongo regional director of health,” he said. The Nokia 105 cellphones were received on behalf of the ministry by regional health director Anna Jonas.
Andre said more needs to be done in terms of public education and awareness to ensure that the region's residents understand and abide by the various state of emergency regulations.“We also need to do more in terms of providing hygiene and sanitation, the provision of masks to the poor and vulnerable, expediting the decongestion processes, housing delivery and the provision of food,” he said. Currently, ward six at the Swakopmund District Hospital is near to its full capacity, with three Covid-19 patients on oxygen.
“With the increase in numbers, as we saw during the last few days, we need to plan for more beds for acute patients,” Andre added.
