He has a strong chance – Farrell
Ringstar Boxing founder and CEO Scott Farrell predicted that in-form undefeated featherweight boxer Sakaria 'Desert Storm' Lukas will stop America's Jessie Magdaleno in the sixth or ninth round when the two meet tomorrow at the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The highly-anticipated 10-round featherweight mega-fight between former Africa featherweight champion Sakaria 'Desert Storm' Lukas and unbeaten world super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno will be a career-defining moment for the Namibian. The two are fighting on the undercard of American world featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Colombian challenger Miguel Marriaga.
If Lukas wins, which Ringstar Boxing founder and CEO Scott Farrell believes he will, he will be in a prime spot to get more international fighting shots.
“Believe me, he has a very strong chance of stopping Magdaleno. If all the hard work goes to plan,” said Farrell.
He added that this is the elite level of boxing people in the sport can only dream of.
His trainer Immanuel 'Ace' Moses said the boxer has a 100% chance of winning against the American, who has 27 fights with one loss and 18 knockouts. “We have a great game plan and that is to take him through deep water, control the pace of every round and the rest, which I can't reveal. All I can say is that it's a do-or-die fight for him.” Moses thanked his team consisting of Farrell, Sean Gibson and MP Promotions, as well as AC Boxing staff Nicky Natangue, Martin Angombe, sparring partner Julius Indongo and Flaime Nangolo. “All of these guys push Lukas to the next level and we can't wait for tomorrow night,” Moses added. Talented fighter Lukas, who has 23 fights, with 16 of them being knockouts, won the Namibia featherweight title in 2013 and never looked back. In 2015, he won the Pan African featherweight title after beating Nathaniel Kamati.
“I will meet you in the ring and then I'll deal with you,” Lukas warned Magdaleno ahead of the fight.
Magdaleno on the other hand is considered a rising young champion but long layoffs have hampered his career. He suffered a surprising one-sided technical knockout loss to Ghana's Isaac Dogboe in April 2018.
In an interview with international media in January, Magdaleno said he is looking for another world title shot. “I think I deserve it. The year 2019 was a good year for me but 2020 will be a great one. I'm looking to become a two-time world champion in 2020.”
He further said that he learnt a lesson from his first career loss to Dogboe.
“I learnt that I didn't really belong at that weight class. It's not for me. I was straining a lot to make weight and it showed. It was a setback but I had to go back to the drawing board. I met with my team and we decided that I should go up to featherweight and it was a good move. I feel a lot stronger,” he said.
