Health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula has confirmed that his ministry is targeting to test more than 200 000 Namibians for the coronavirus.

It will cost government roughly N$190 million to conduct these tests, with one test valued at about N$954, while a discussion is still underway to establish what government will charge private medical aids for the test.

Meanwhile, Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) CEO Dr David Uirab said they have decided to conduct tests for those with medical aid, while billing will be done afterwards once a price is established. “I also understand that medical aid will pay for the tests of patients provided it was referred by a medical doctor and fulfils the case definition,” he said.
