Goldbeck is Swakop Karters Club champ
The first leg of the SFC Swakop Karters Club championship took place on Saturday at the Swakop go-karting track.
Jörg Goldbeck won the master's class as he gathered 24 points with a best time of 29:05. He finished ahead second placed Martin Kruger, who amassed 21 points with a best time of 27:89.
Hans Muschkat emerged as the third placed racer with 0 points as he did not finish heat one and was disqualified for heats two and three. His best time was 28:52.
“It's very nice to win. I love racing and it is also very nice to see the younger drivers progressing really well. The big winner today was the SFC Karting Club and the sport of go karting,” said Goldbeck.
Goldbeck, who was also the organiser of the championship, said the event was a success as it exceeded his expectations.
“As a new club that recently got affiliated with the Namibian Motorsport Federation, it was our first event for SFC Swakop Karters Club. We are happy with the outcome for the race. We got some spectators and a lot of interest, so overall,” he said.
He also said that the level of karting displayed at the championship was superb.
“I didn't expect such a high level of karting in all the classes. In the junior max class, the progress that the drivers made from the first heat to the last heat was exception. In the senior max and master class, the quality of karting was also very good,” said Goldbeck.
The event featured four different classes namely Maxterino (9 to 12 years), junior max (12 to 16 years), Senior Max (16 to 29 years old) and Masters (30 years old and older).
Drivers in each class raced three heats which each consisted of 15 laps.
The rest of the results were as follows:

Jaydrique Rhodes 12 points (best time: 32:92 seconds)
Heinrich Roos 0 points (best time: 33:08 seconds)
