Glitz, glamour and red carpet moments
This year the My Zone team made sure to cover all the matric farewells of high schools that are part of the school newspaper project, by broadcasting the events live.

Every year when it is the season of matric farewells the My Zone team makes it their mission to broadcast the most memorable experience in every teenager’s life.
This year Covid-19 really took a toll on a lot of people, which led to events like matric farewells being cancelled.
Some of the schools we covered were: Privaatskool Moria, Pro-Ed Academy, Kuisebmond Secondary School, Walvis Bay Private School, Duneside High School, Windhoek High School, Keetmanshoop Secondary School and Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool.
The covering of the matric farewells also brought the team together as it was a whole new team, which meant a new experience for everyone.
Everyone knew their part and made sure to work together as a team and ensure that they played their role effortlessly.
One of the challenges that were faced was sound, as we livestreamed on Facebook and music copyright was an issue.
How we overcame this challenge was to livestream the matric farewell entrance on the Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) channel, OneUpTwo.com.
One of the highlights with the covering of matric farewells was the feeling after a successful livestream and meeting learners that are part of the school newspaper project.
Learners shared their gratitude at being part of My Zone and how the My Zone team inspires them.
Wetumwene Shikage, who had her first experience with going live by mixing at the Windhoek Gymnasium matric farewell, said: “My first time mixing was surprisingly okay because I had great assistance from a fellow colleague, Gabriela Dawids. With the other matric farewells I made sure to stay calm at all times and just remember what I was taught the first time.”
Rivaldo Kavanga was also part of the team that covered matric farewells and he said there were many things that the team realised didn’t work and everyone made sure not to repeat mistakes.
As the coordinator of the 2021 matric farewells it was an interesting process. I learned a lot about myself and the importance of working as a team to get the job done.
The ‘My Matric Farewell Journey’ is a competition were members of the My Zone team will follow a learner around as he/she prepares for the matric farewell.
It was such a proud moment for me to see my idea come to life as the final video was uploaded on our My Zone Instagram page.
This year’s matric farewells were truly one for the books and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for making the job easy and fun.
To all the schools we work with as part of the school newspaper project: thank you so much.
Looking forward to what next year has in store!
